CMC Markets Expands Spectre Access Following Retail Demand

CMC Markets Expands Spectre Account Following Retail Demand

CMC Markets has expanded access to its Spectre trading product by launching the account type for retail clients, following what the company described as strong demand after its earlier rollout to professional traders.

Spectre is structured as a zero-leverage spread betting account, allowing traders to use their own capital instead of borrowing through leverage. According to CMC Markets, the product is for clients seeking a simpler approach to trading while reducing costs commonly linked to leveraged positions.

The company stated that Spectre offers tax-efficient trading benefits for eligible UK clients, including exemption from capital gains tax and stamp duty. While leverage and margin calls do not apply to long positions, they may still apply to short positions.

CMC Markets said interest from retail traders increased after the initial launch for professional clients, with a growing waiting list signaling demand for alternative trading structures focused on longer-term market participation.

The rollout forms part of the company’s wider effort to broaden its multi-asset product offering. Founded more than 36 years ago, CMC Markets continues to expand its services across global financial markets, targeting both active traders and longer-term investors.

Peter Cruddas, also known as Lord Peter Cruddas, commented on the retail expansion of the product.

“Following strong demand and a growing waiting list, our Spectre account is now available to all clients, including retail investors, following the initial launch to professional-only clients,” he said.

“By removing leverage and financing costs, the Spectre account offers a simpler, cost-effective, and tax-efficient way to trade, without capital gains tax and stamp duty.”

Laurence Booth said the product reflects the company’s broader direction in product development.

“The launch of Spectre for retail clients is a clear example of how we are shaping the next generation of trading solutions,” Booth stated.

“It reflects our wider strategy to expand client choice through products that combine flexibility and cost efficiency, while continuing to strengthen CMC Markets’ position as a leading multi-asset financial services firm.”
