Marex Names John Pietrowicz as Chair After Robert Pickering Steps Down

Marex Group Limited (NASDAQ: MRX) has announced a change at the top of its board, with Robert Pickering stepping down as Chair and John Pietrowicz taking over the role.

Pickering joined Marex’s Group Board in September 2021 and became Senior Independent Director in March 2022. He was appointed Chair in October 2023, overseeing the company through a major period of expansion and its transition into a publicly listed financial services group.

During his tenure, Marex completed its Nasdaq listing and continued diversifying its business across markets and financial services. Pickering said his time at the company was by its transformation from a small private business into a Nasdaq-listed group with a market capitalization exceeding $5 billion.

He added that Marex has “exciting prospects” ahead and wished the company success following his departure.

Marex Names John Pietrowicz as Chair After Robert Pickering Steps Down

Pietrowicz, who is already a member of the Marex Board, will succeed Pickering as Chair. He joined the board in April 2024 and currently chairs Marex’s Mergers and Acquisitions Committee.

The incoming Chair brings substantial experience from the global derivatives and financial markets sector. Pietrowicz previously served as Chief Financial Officer of CME Group between 2014 and 2023, giving him more than a decade of senior leadership experience at one of the world’s largest derivatives marketplaces.

For Marex, the leadership transition comes as the company continues to pursue its growth and diversification strategy following its public-market debut. The change also places a board member with significant experience in large-scale financial market infrastructure at the head of the group.

Marex CEO Ian Lowitt thanked Pickering for his contribution, highlighting his role in guiding the company through its Nasdaq listing, IPO and subsequent expansion.

Lowitt also welcomed Pietrowicz into the Chair role, saying he looked forward to working with him as Marex enters its next phase and seeks to maintain its track record of sustainable growth.

The transition therefore represents a change in board leadership rather than a broader management reshuffle, with Pietrowicz already familiar with Marex’s operations and strategic priorities through his existing board responsibilities.
