Moneta Markets partners with Atlético Madrid as APAC sponsor, boosting brand presence across Asia through strategic football marketing.
Moneta Markets has entered the world of sports sponsorship for the first time, announcing a regional partnership with Spanish football giant Atlético de Madrid. The agreement names Moneta Markets the club’s official regional partner in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
Though limited in geographical scope, the deal is a strategic move aimed at bolstering Moneta’s brand visibility across Asia, leveraging Atlético’s growing fanbase in the region.
“This partnership marks more than just a sponsorship,” said David Bily, Founder and CEO of Moneta Markets. “It’s a symbol of our growth.”
As part of the deal, Moneta Markets gains access to several of Atlético de Madrid’s marketing assets, including:
- Hospitality at selected matches
- Matchday activations
- Participation in club events
- Co-branded memorabilia featuring Atlético players
The partnership opens the door for Moneta to engage a broad audience across the club’s digital presence, which spans 80.2 million global followers across platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. In Asia specifically, the club has a major following, with 1.92 million followers on Weibo and over 130,000 on Bilibili—ranking Atlético as the third-most followed European club in China.
Moneta Markets Joins Atlético as APAC Regional Sponsor
Further underlining its APAC appeal, Atlético drew a sold-out crowd in Seoul for a 2023 friendly against Manchester City and has seen strong growth on Douyin and other Asian video platforms.
Founded in 2020 under the Vantage Group, Moneta Markets officially spun off in 2022, subsequently acquiring regulatory licenses in several jurisdictions. The sponsorship aligns with its recent strategic push to expand in Asia-Pacific, including plans for proprietary trading and the recruitment of regional leadership.
Atlético de Madrid is no stranger to financial trading sponsors. It previously enjoyed a multi-year, high-value partnership with Plus500, which served both as a back-of-shirt and main shirt sponsor. Plus500 reportedly paid up to €17 million per year at its peak involvement with the club.
In early 2024, Hantec Markets joined Atlético as another sponsor, reinforcing football’s continued popularity among online brokers seeking brand exposure.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Moneta Markets as our official regional partner in APAC,” said Óscar Mayo, Atlético de Madrid’s Chief Revenue and Operating Officer. “This partnership marks a significant step in how we connect with our fans and explore new frontiers such as online trading.”
While full-shirt sponsorships can cost tens of millions annually, regional “official partner” deals—like Moneta’s—offer a more cost-effective entry point into football sponsorship, while still delivering substantial marketing reach and brand legitimacy.
As online trading continues to grow across Asia-Pacific, Moneta’s alignment with a globally recognized football brand could prove to be a timely and effective move.
Financial details of the partnership remain undisclosed.
